After spending four days in the hospital, 11-year-old Richard Granville could finally go home.

Granville was riding his bike a few blocks from home in Far Rockaway on the night of Aug. 13 when a car slammed into him and the driver sped away.

On Wednesday, Granville opened up to CBS New York about his experience during and after the violent accident.

“The only thing I remember is like when I hit the car, I leaned up against the other car then the ambulance came and I started screaming,” he said.

Only one thing was going through his mind, he said.

“I don’t want to die,” he said.

Now, he’s back to focusing on football and riding his new bike.

The day after the incident, police apprehended Agostinho Sinclair, 41, after discovering front-end damage on his car, which matched the description of the vehicle that smashed into Granville.

“It’s just heartbreaking to think you could hit a child and leave the scene not even to see if he was okay,” the boy’s mother, Kahvene told CBS.
