Police say search crews have recovered the bodies of a Queens resident and his 9-year-old son who were swept down a rain-swollen upstate river in Cuddebackville, NY over the weekend.
On Monday, state troopers identified the victims as 46-year-old Marco Avila and 9-year-old Marcos Avila of Queens. Department of Environmental Conservation rangers and a state police helicopter crew spotted the bodies near Shore Drive along the Neversink River.
Police say the two were last seen Saturday morning at the Oakland Valley Campground in Cuddebackville, about 50 miles northwest of Queens
Troopers say the boy was on a raft that overturned and his father dove in to rescue him, but they were swept away by the fast current.
