L I Sea: Maiden Voyage of Gantry Plaza Ferry Could Signal Queens Expansion

When a ferry makes its maiden voyage from LIC to LES on Aug. 29, it could be the precursor for a new fleet of passenger boats carrying commuters along the Queens waterfront.

The new ferry route will depart from Gantry Plaza State Park and enable Western Queens commuters to travel to the Lower East Side in about a half hour.

Ride-Hail Mishap Kills Tourist in LIC

A Florida man who knocked on a car window because he thought it was his Uber ride has died after the driver got out and punched him in Long Island City.

Sandor Szabo, 35, was visiting Queens for a wedding. Szabo died Tuesday.

Surging LIC is Still NYC’s Hottest Neighborhood

A new real estate reports confirms what anyone who has spent time in the Long Island City neighborhood-wide construction zone already surmised: LIC remains NYC’s fastest growing neighborhood.

Long Island City still leads New York City in new apartment construction, with 2,100 new units projected to hit the market in 2018, according to a report released yesterday by the real estate website RentCafe. The top three also includes Williamsburg with 1,932 new apartments and Downtown Brooklyn with 1,118.
