The last Nazi war crimes suspect facing deportation from the U.S. was taken from his Jackson Heights home and spirited early Tuesday morning to Germany, following years of efforts to remove him from the United States.
The deportation of the 95-year-old former Nazi camp guard, Jakiw Palij, came 25 years after investigators first confronted him about his World War II past.
“Justice demands that every person be held accountable for their actions,” the Brandeis Association said in a statement to the Queens Daily Eagle. “The heinous crimes of the Nazi regime are not washed away by the passage of time. The Brandeis Association commends the commitment of the U.S. Department of Justice to the rule of law. We must never relent in pursuing justice for victims of the Holocaust.”Read more
